2026 FA World Service Business Convention

SHORT NAME: Serenity Prayer

MAIN MOTION

The Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Wednesday, 6.30pm AEST videoconference meeting group moves that all FA Conference-approved meeting formats be amended to include, “to a God of your own understanding,” read aloud by the meeting leader immediately after introducing the Serenity Prayer at the beginning and end of the meeting. 

CURRENT WORDING

[Meeting Leader:] After a  moment of silence, please join me in the Serenity Prayer.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the  wisdom to know the difference.  

PROPOSED WORDING

[Meeting Leader:] After a moment of silence, please join me if you wish to do so*, in the Serenity Prayer, to a God of your own understanding.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

RATIONALE

To increase the accessibility and inclusivity of FA meetings for all members regardless of background, religion, culture, or beliefs. We hope this change will strengthen FA by helping newcomers feel welcome from their first meeting and ensuring all members feel a sense of belonging.

*An Amendment passed at EAI Jan 11 to include wording to the effect of "join if you wish".
