Answers to frequently asked questions about submitting to Connection
Do you need 90 days to submit?
Yes, you need 90 days of continuous abstinence and are working with an FA sponsor to submit art or articles.
What makes a good Connection story?

Reflect on the pain and misery of food addiction (being underweight or overweight, dealing with the mental obsession, coping with the compulsion of overexercising). Describe the freedom and benefits of weighing and measuring your food, staying abstinent, and getting support by using FA tools.

Describe your first 90 days, how you recaptured 90 days, and the rewards and promises that come with abstinence and recovery.

How long does the article need to be?

As little as two to four paragraphs or as much as a couple of pages.

The preferred length for most stories is 800-1,300 words.
Can I get help writing my article?

Yes, writing coaches are available to help before you submit.

Will Connection edit my story or images?

Yes. Once submitted, it’s assigned to an editor for clarity, content, and alignment with FA meeting practices and the Twelve Traditions.

I want to contribute artwork or photographs. Where do I start?

What format should I use for my story?

Type your story in a word processing app like Google docs or Word and save it as a separate file.

Do not save your file as a PDF or type the content into the body of an email.

When will my article be published?
-
The earliest is four to six months after submission.

Most stories are saved in the archives for a year or more until they are selected.

Just submitting is an act of service. Not all submitted articles appear in a published issue.

You won’t know if or when your article will be published. Please keep your subscription updated and regularly check each new issue.
Will I be contacted by the Connection committee about the article or art I submitted months ago?

Upon submission, you’ll receive an auto-reply email acknowledging receipt.

If you don’t receive it, email articles@foodaddicts or art@foodaddicts.org with the date it was initially sent. Since the Connection committee is composed of FA volunteers, we cannot track the status of individual submissions. However, if a volunteer has a question about your submission, they will contact you.
Can I submit a poem, letter to God, or diary entry?

Currently, Connection does not accept poems or “letters to God” for publication.

However, we encourage you to convert your journal entry, letter to a Higher Power, or other creative writing into a story format.

Our experience is that the most inspiring and compelling stories are written in a deeply personal and authentic voice.

If we can’t accept your submission, writing coaches will be happy to work with you.

Can my meeting host a writing session?

Yes! Writing sessions are available in videoconference and in-person formats.

How do I change a meeting subscription to the address of the new Connection representative?

Your meeting’s Meeting Contact rep submits a meeting change request through the FA website.

The update may take 7-10 days to process.

If a digital Connection subscription was purchased for the meeting, please contact web@foodaddicts.org to transfer delivery to the new Connection rep’s email address. Please log on to the subscription page and follow the instructions.
