The FA-EAI Board with the Bylaw Committee moves to change the FA-EAI Bylaws: Article V, Sections 1 and  2, with new timing for elections, taking effect as of the 2025 FA-EAI Elections.

Refer to the FA-EAI Bylaws governing documents here: https://www.foodaddicts.org/documents/fa-eai-bylaws

**UPDATE 11/10/2024: Changed the proposed months FROM  July/Sept  TO  May/June, to better match WSI terms of service.**

Current language:

SECTION 1: Nominations may be made from the floor of the January FA-EAI meeting by any member with a vote and a voice, according to these Bylaws.

  1. Nominees who wish to be candidates must accept the nomination before the name can be submitted to the membership; the procedure for acceptance will be announced by the Chair at that time.

  2. Notice of the slate of candidates shall be made to the membership by publication in the FA-EAI monthly report.

SECTION 2: Elections of officers will occur at the February FA-EAI meeting. Candidates must be present at the time of their election.

Proposed language:

ARTICLE V: NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS

SECTION 1: Nominations may be made from the floor of the May FA-EAI meeting by any member with a vote and a voice, according to these Bylaws.

  1. Nominees who wish to be candidates must accept the nomination before the name can be submitted to the membership; the procedure for acceptance will be announced by the Chair at that time.

  2. Notice of the slate of candidates shall be made to the membership by publication in the FA-EAI monthly report.

SECTION 2: Elections of officers will occur at the June FA-EAI meeting. Candidates must be present at the time of their election.

(Note: June EAI occurs the week after World Service Business Convention)

Rationale

By a simple change in the Bylaws to change the dates of the Officer elections, Officers will be better prepared to serve both the Intergroup and EAI’s efficiency at WSBC. Officers will have eight months in office to prepare for both the EAI in-person comprehensive Board meeting and the WSBC, while currently they get two months of preparation for these vital events.

World Service Level:

  • The outgoing Officers will still have the opportunity to bring their experience and knowledge to the voting at WSBC.

  • The incoming Officers will have experience to bring to the following WSBC, and sufficient time to prepare the presentation of EAI accomplishments of the preceding year to WSBC.

EAI Level:

  • The incoming officers will have more time to gain experience prior to the Board in-person meeting in March. In addition, incoming officers will have sufficient time to prepare for the annual report in April.
