Ten Things To Consider Before Starting An In-Person FA Meeting

The following are a few things to consider when starting an in-person FA meeting. While this is not a complete list, it will give you some ideas.

  1. Find a venue. Check AA meeting lists in your area, which may help you to find meeting-friendly venues.
  2. Are the deposit and rent affordable for the number of people attending the meeting?
  3. Is there nearby parking, and is it accessible for those who may have mobility issues?
  4. Does the meeting time conflict with mealtimes or other nearby FA meetings?
  5. Does the heating and air conditioning at the venue work appropriately?
  6. Will the venue be available on holidays?
  7. Is insurance needed at the venue?
  8. Do you know where to obtain templates and signage?
  9. Are there enough abstinent people to fill the required service positions: WAI/EAI Intergroup contact, WSI Representative, Meeting Contact, Secretary, and Treasurer?
  10. Is the meeting location ADA-accessible? Some things to consider are:
    • Does the venue have stairs?
    • Are there a few chairs without arms?
    • Is there a microphone for people who are hard of hearing?

We attend meetings, which enable us to identify and share our experience, strength and hope with each other. We have found that unless we give to newcomers what we have received from the program, we cannot keep it for ourselves.
