How to get PSAs to Radio, Television, and Web Broadcasters

PI representatives and Local Service Groups can reach suffering food addicts and many who want to help them by providing Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) for Radio, Television, and Web broadcasts to publicize local meetings and information sessions.  Here some suggestions to help with these postings:

Identifying Local Media

• Request a list of local media contacts by emailing pi@foodaddicts.org and asking for a Cision media list for the county of your meeting.

Contacting Publications:

• Once you have identified a media station, use their website to locate the contact information of the PSA Coordinator, or other relevant person.
• Use the simple “Script for PSA Outreach” when contacting media.
• Once you have had email or live phone contact with the appropriate PSA contact person, ask for the email address to send a PSA.

Create the content for the PSA or Meeting Announcement

• Download the Public Service Announcement (PSA) Letter to Radio/ Local TV/Cable Station(s) and customize it with the appropriate meeting or information session details.
• Some radio DJs want to record the PSA’s in their own voices, while others may want something pre-recorded. You can download MP3 10, 20, and 30 second pre-recorded PSA’s here.
  • If they say they don’t accept MP3 files and need a CD, please contact the PI Committee at pi@foodaddicts.org for approval to burn a CD.  Customize this letter to send along with the CD.

Keeping Track of Your Announcements:

• Track your postings and media contacts using the Broadcast Media Tracker: digital version or printable version. This list can be updated as needed and passed to the new PI Representative when meeting positions are rotated.
