Carry the message via newspapers and community newsletters
Get newspapers and community newsletters to carry the message of recovery to the still suffering food addict
Posting announcements for local meetings and/or information sessions in local newspapers, community newsletters, “Pennysavers,” etc is a great way to spread the word about FA to the still suffering food addict. Here are some tips and best practices to help you organize these postings.
Identifying Local Publications
- Begin by simply keeping your eye out for the publications that arrive in your mailbox, or that you see around your city.
- PI Representatives can enlist help from members at their business meetings to suggest publications or team up with Local Service Groups to share the work of publicizing local meetings.
Contacting Publications:
- Research newspapers’ “community bulletin board” or “community announcement” sections to identify the point person.
- Members can use this simple script to contact media:
“We'd like to publish a regular calendar announcement about local meetings (or an announcement for an upcoming free information session), of Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous. We are a free program that provides a lifesaving solution for people battling overeating, undereating, bulimia or obsession with body size.” - If the contact person wants more information about FA or wants to arrange an article or interview, contact pi@foodaddicts.org, or see the “Working With the Media” page on the FA website.
Publishing Your Announcement:
- Choose a conference-approved Calendar Announcement (either the Version A or the Version B). Customize the calendar announcement and send it to the appropriate media contact person.
Keeping Track of Your Announcements:
- Track your postings and media contacts using the Print Media Tracker. This list can be updated as needed and passed to the new PI Representative when meeting positions are rotated.
- Check the publication every month to ensure it is current and update as needed.
